Live For the King! Matt & Heidi Keller; Indy, Trace & Perrin
I (Heidi) remember being called to missions at a very young age when a missionary came to our church and shared about serving others and preaching the Gospel in Africa. God has pursued me throughout my life and has been very patient with me! Many times I have decided to go my own way and have had to learn the hard way that God knows better than me. I went on my first missions trip to Austria the summer before my senior year in high school. I was really struggling at the time and trying to find my identity in the wrong places and I jumped at the chance to go on this trip because inside I knew that God could help me.
In 2000 I did a Discipleship Training School with Youth with a Mission. God radically changed my life during this school and I felt like I began to understand God's love for me and how He wants us to know Him intimately. God is always showing me more about his amazing love and character and He has given Matt and me a desire to show others God's love and to make disciples.
When I (Matt) was graduating from high school my pastor came up to me and said, "Don't rule out the ministry". I gave him a "courtesy" okay but on the inside I was more like, "ya right!". I was fine with being a Christian as long as I didn't have to work with kids, go to China or give up too much of my free time. I went to college as a math major but during that time God began break through to my heart. I loved math (I know, I'm strange) but there was one moment during my junior year of college where God spoke very clear to me. "I have more for you than this", He said. It was so clear that at I decided right then and there to go in to youth ministry.
Long story shorter...three years later I graduated with a Biblical Studies degree and shortly after became a youth pastor in Bemidji, MN. While at college I met my beautiful wife when I went on a blind date with her roommate. Funny how things work out like that!

Committed to knowing God and making Him known!
A few years ago someone challenged us to read the Bible like we've never read before. I started in Luke and read through taking note of what Jesus asked of His disciples. Actually, it was more commanding than asking. As I was reading I enjoyed the stories of Jesus and His miracles and teachings. And then I hit Luke 14. "So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple." Ouch. I knew in my heart that wasn't me. I loved Jesus but mostly when it was convenient. As Heidi and I prayed about what this meant for us I heard God ask me very clearly, "Will you do this?" Instead of answering Him I turned up the radio but thankfully He didn't stop asking. This nagged at our hearts until we came to the conclusion if we are going to claim to be Christians than we want to obey ALL of Christ's commandments.
It was at this time that God put on our heart to sell what we owned, from our house to our furniture and even our hunting and fishing stuff, to then do a Family Discipleship Training School (DTS). We wanted to fully commit our family to Jesus and pursue Him with everything we had. As we prayed, God lead us to YWAM (Youth With A Mission) New Zealand where we joined 10 other families from around the world for one purpose: To know God and make Him known. It was the best decision we ever made as a family.
From New Zealand we went on outreach to Adelaide, South Australia with some amazing people from our DTS. We spent most nights on the streets sharing the Gospel with whoever God led us to. Heidi and the other girls on our outreach ministered to those trapped in prostitution, some of which had been trafficked in. This is also where our boys began to enjoy evangelism on the street where they saw God work in miraculous ways.
In June of 2013 we moved our family from Northern Minnesota to Cascade, ID to join Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Idaho. Here I (Matt) am a part of the Leadership Team as well as helping with Mission Adventures. We are also part of the pioneering team that will be starting a YWAM ministry in Boise, ID in August 2015.
